General & Background
Who is Odoh Diego Okenyodo?
Odoh Diego Okenyodo is a Nigerian writer, journalist, development communication expert, media strategist, poet, and media entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Akweya TV Limited and Isu Media Ltd. With over two decades of experience, he has worked with governments, international development organisations (including UNICEF, UNODC, and BBC Media Action), NGOs, and private institutions to design communication strategies and strengthen public engagement.
What is your professional background?
I hold advanced degrees in Development Communication from the Nasarawa State University Keffi, and Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. I began my journalism career in 1999 and later transitioned into strategic communication and development work. I have served as Media Coordinator for the Alliance for Credible Elections and as a senior programme officer at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD). I am also a faculty member at the West Africa Broadcast and Media Academy (WABMA) and the Eugenia Abu Media Public Speaking Executive Masterclass.
What is your approach to development communication?
I believe that ideas alone do not change societies—stories do. My work focuses on transforming evidence into influence, turning complex ideas into narratives that move people, influence policy, and inspire action. Development succeeds when people become participants, not just audiences.
Services
What types of organisations do you work with?
I work with governments, NGOs, development partners, businesses, and social innovators. My clients have included UNICEF, PLAN International, Pathfinder International, IOM, CISLAC, CDD, PWAN, Centre LSD, WABMA, and NHRC.
What specific services do you offer?
My services are organised into five core areas:
· Development Communication: Communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, behaviour change communication, knowledge management, and monitoring communication impact.
· Public Relations: Media relations, crisis communication, executive profiling, thought leadership, and corporate storytelling.
· Journalism & Editorial: Feature writing, opinion articles, reports, books, research editing, and policy briefs.
· Capacity Building: Communication training, media training, storytelling workshops, public speaking, AI for communicators, report writing, proposal writing, and knowledge management.
· Creative Works: Music, poetry, writings, and editing.
Can you help with behaviour change communication?
Absolutely. I specialise in designing communication systems that go beyond simple awareness to create measurable behaviour change. As I often remind colleagues: “Behaviour change is not awareness alone”—we must design environments that make the desired behaviour the easiest and most natural choice.
Do you offer training and workshops?
Yes. I am available for conferences, keynote speeches, retreats, masterclasses, leadership development, and communication strategy sessions. I have trained journalists across Africa through the Africa Disease Reporting Fellowship and other programmes.
